Fragmentation and clutter
As you use your pc it becomes slowly clogged with temporary files, duplicate files, old internet files, registry entries and remnants of uninstalled programs. Your computer's hard drive tries to store these files anywhere it can find space. Sometimes it even splits files up and stores them in different places. As a result files are 'fragmented' and your hard drive is a mess.
